Resetting a board

Get back into a board after a bad setting, or start it again from scratch

Network resetFallback addressFactory reset

Most people who want to reset a board have set a static IP or hostname and can't find the board any more. Every board has three ways back in, from gentlest to harshest: reset just the network settings, put the board on a fixed fallback address, or factory reset it. The buttons differ between the Baldrick8 and Baldrick17 and every other board, so check the table first.

FirstBefore you reset anything

Open Baldrick Buddy. It finds every board on your network, whatever address it has, and opens its page.
If Buddy can't see it, check the board's Ethernet lights are on and that it's plugged into the same router or switch as your computer.
Still nothing? The network troubleshooting guide covers boards that won't show up or keep dropping off.

"Hold while powering on" means: unplug the board, hold the button down, plug it back in, and keep holding for 10 seconds. For the Oh No presses, unplug the board, plug it back in, and press straight away while it's starting up. The network reset and fallback address on boards other than the Baldrick8 and Baldrick17 need firmware 3.7 or later. Each board's manual shows where its buttons are, under Board components; on the BaldrickDMX, Oh No is the only button on the board.

GentleReset just the network settings

Clears the static IP, hostname, gateway and DNS settings and puts the board back on DHCP, so your router gives it an address again. Outputs, inputs and everything else stay as they were. Try this first.

Baldrick8 or Baldrick17: hold B1 while powering on.
Any other board: unplug it, plug it back in, and press the Oh No button 3 times within 3 seconds while it starts up.
Find the board again with Baldrick Buddy.

No DHCPPut the board on 192.168.68.68

For networks with nothing handing out addresses, such as a laptop wired straight to the board or a show network without a router. The board takes the fixed address 192.168.68.68. The address can't be changed, but once you're on the board's page you can set the one you want.

Baldrick8 or Baldrick17: hold B2 while powering on.
Any other board: unplug it, plug it back in, and press the Oh No button 5 times within 3 seconds while it starts up.
Set your computer's wired connection to a fixed address on the same range, for example 192.168.68.10 with subnet mask 255.255.255.0.
Open http://192.168.68.68 in a browser.
Change the board's network settings to suit your network, then set your computer back to getting its address automatically.

This wipes the firmware too

The board goes back to how it shipped: every setting is gone and you'll need to update the firmware again from its web page. Make sure the board can reach the internet before you start.

Unplug the board, hold the button, plug it back in, and keep holding for 10 seconds.

AfterOnce it's reset

Find the board again with Baldrick Buddy, or at baldrickboard.local if it's the only board on your network.
After a factory reset, update the firmware from the board's page.
If you want the board to keep the same address, reserve one for it in your router rather than setting a static IP on the board. The network guide explains why.
